Mastiff Partners With Renegade Kid To Publish 'Project M'

Video game publisher Mastiff announced an agreement with Renegade Kid (Dementium: The Ward) to publish their next Nintendo DS game, given the working title of "Project M" and utilizing Renegade Kid's 3D engine.

The 3D engine was created in-house by the Austin-based developers, and Gamasutra recently spoke with Renegade Kid co-founders Jools Watsham and Greg Hargrove about making cutting-edge engines for the DS, and being an indie in today's market.

Said Hargrove in the interview, "Really, we're trying things that are difficult, just to see if it works. And pretty much every time we've found a way to make it work. We try to push the DS as much as we can. In learning from working on the SNES and Genesis, we have learned to pull the most out of the platforms we have worked on. A good chunk of our past has been on working on these systems with limitations... and learning to pull off tricks."

Mastiff has offices in Tokyo, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The publisher's recent titles include Gurumin for PSP, Dr. Sudoku for the GameBoy Advance, Pump It Up: Exceed, and La Pucelle: Tactics.

Bill Swartz, "Head Woof" of Mastiff, commented, "With skillful use of audio and controls, the developer created a truly creepy experience in Dementium: The Ward. We've seen enough of their latest project to know that they have much more in store."
