Guitar Hero , Consoles Make Yahoo! Most-Searched List

A review of Yahoo! Web searches has revealed that Activision’s Guitar Hero was the only individual video game listed in the top ten technology searches of the year, alongside the Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 and other brands such as iPod.

Although no overall top ten of search subjects was revealed, video game related products featured prominently in the technology top ten. The number one searched-for subject in the top ten was YouTube, followed by Wikipedia, Facebook, iTunes, iPod and iPhone.

At number seven, the Wii was the most searched for vide games product, followed by Xbox at number eight (no distinction was made in Yahoo’s reporting between the original and Xbox 360) and PlayStation 3 at number nine. In a year which has seen a number of prominent releases, including Halo 3 and Super Mario Galaxy, Guitar Hero was the only individual game at number ten – although again no distinction was made between different sequels.

“Games” in general ranked third in the social search and bookmarking site del.icio.us' top ten, behind “Design” and HDTV. Meanwhile, the keyword “Games” topped the children’s top ten, ahead of concepts such as Animals, Dinosaurs and Math.

"Searches can give us insight into a culture in motion and Yahoo!'s Top Trends in Search in 2007 reflects the world's fascination with crossroads and breakthroughs. People weren't just buzzing about celebrity. More than ever they sought to be environmentally responsible, were using the Web to find out about food and product safety and getting the scoop on the latest gadgets," said Heather Cabot, Yahoo! Web Life editor.
