Original Space Quest creators form new adventure game studio

The original creators of adventure game series Space Quest have formed a new game studio, with the aim to develop a new sci-fi themed point-and-click adventure.

Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy, originally both programmers at Sierra On-Line, are well-known for creating the Space Quest series, a science fiction parody franchise that spawned half a dozen titles.

Crowe and Murphy have now formed Guys from Andromeda after a 25 year hiatus, with the upcoming game tentatively titled Two Guys Spaceventure.

The duo said that it is looking to adapt the adventure gaming genre to match the ways in which people now play games, and will be hiring other developers to help it out.

"The way games are made and gotten into a player’s home has changed greatly," the studio explained in a statement. "We are adapting to the changes, taking advantage of them and charting our own course through space and looking forward to finding that 'new game smell.'"

I loved the Space Quest games growing up. I used to play them with my dad all the time. When I was in grade school, we had to write a small essay about who we would want to spend an evening to eat dinner with, living or dead, and I choose Scott Murphy. Needless to say, my classmates had no idea who I was talking about. I'm real excited to see what they two of them will be able to bring to the table.

Sounds awesome! Considering that sci-fi as a game setting has gotten older and with a lot of serious titles out, I can't wait to see if the pair spoofs them.

Great. Hope they keep the pre-Space Quest V feeling. Up to IV it was awesomeness itself.

I'm still mad at these guys for that damn "drop rock in geyser" puzzle. It was so easy, but the damn parser only took that one permutation.

2 fucking years stuck there. 2 years. (hey, I was 6 or 7)

Well, if it helps any, I-IV were the only ones done by the Two Guys. They went their separate ways for V and VI.

This is the best news. Ever.

Huge congrats on the new studio. This is the team that made my favorite games in the late 80's!
