Activision has confirmed that the next title in the popular Call of Duty franchise is a sequel to 2010's Black Ops, as previously rumored, with a release date of November 13 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.
The UK website for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 appears to have gone live before the official reveal later today, stating that the game will be set in the near future during a 21st century cold war, moving the spin-off to be more in line with the Modern Warfare part of the series rather than its 20th century-based predecessor.
The company's Call of Duty Elite social network will be integrated into Black Ops 2, as Activision attempts to bolster the franchise's monthly active users count even further.
According to Activision, a major update will launch with Black Ops 2 that will add new features, dubbed Call of Duty Elite 2.0.
Not wild about that decision. Personally, I was much more invested in Mason, Reznov, and Hudson and their collective story, and was looking forward to a continuation of that narrative (which I think is hands down the best in the Call of Duty series). But I'm interested to see how Treyarch will craft a whole new story part 2.
I play(ed) for the single player. CoD 1, 2, and 4 were huge steps forward. CoD:MW2 was okay. But since then I kinda feel like their bag of tricks is spent. Discovering a new formula is pretty cool, but being formulaic is not.
