Max Payne 3 beats Diablo III to top of UK retail charts

Rockstar Games' Max Payne 3 shot to the top of the the UK sales charts in its opening weekend, marking the best-selling all-formats release since Mass Effect 3.

The other new entry last week, Diablo III, entered the charts just below Max Payne 3 at number two for the week ended May 12, and according to data from tracking firm Chart-Track. Note that Chart-Track's data does not track digital sales -- a channel by which Diablo III was available for purchase.

The pair of new titles pushed last week's number one Sniper Elite V2 down to number four, while long-standing FIFA Street continued to sit high in the charts at number three.

Notably this is the first week EA's Mass Effect 3 has dropped out of the charts since it launched in March -- before now, it had not dropped below position five.

Elsewhere, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 re-entered the top 10 at number seven, having dropped out in the previous week. Kinect Star Wars also disappeared from the top 10 for the first time since it launched.

Below are Chart-Track's all-platforms sales charts, which include unit sales of all versions of a given title, and the individual platform charts, which treat individual SKUs separately.

UK All-Platforms Top 10

1. Max Payne 3 (Rockstar)
2. Diablo III (Blizzard)

UK Individual Platforms Top 10

Diablo III topped Chart-Track's individual formats top 10 chart last week, outselling both versions of Max Payne 3.

The Xbox 360 version of Max Payne 3 accounted for 58 percent of sales, and the PS3 accounted for 42 percent (the PC version is due for release in the next few weeks).

1. Diablo III (Blizzard, PC)
2. Max Payne 3 (Rockstar, Xbox 360)
3. Max Payne 3 (Rockstar, PS3)

Just one interesting thing while looking at individuals platforms top 10:

PC IS DIEING, MAKE CONSOLE GAMES, YOU CANNOT MAKE A TOP CHART HIT WITH PC!!! AAAAH!!

Lets wait and see until all the other AAA PC exclusives that will be released in 2012 dominate the market.
It's a shame, I can't think of even 1 being in the making.

Funny what some people see in a number one charting in a single week in the UK.
