D2C Announces PSP Downloadable Interactive Comic 'The Cryptics'

Publisher D2C Games has announced that the first of its planned handheld interactive comics series will be available today on the PlayStation Store with The Cryptics, a look into the young lives of monster favorites from Steve Niles and Ben Roman.

D2C was first formed in early 2007, with the company telling Gamasutra its digital comics format gives "writers and artists the opportunity to play at being movie directors, panning a scene to create a sense of motion, and letting the user dictate the pacing or let it run on its own."

The publisher says each comic will feature "story action directed by the comics' creators, SFX, original musical scores, behind-the-scenes video and interactive commentary that expands the digital reading experience beyond traditional print comics."

The Cryptics follows Jackie Jekyll Jr., Drac, Wolfy and Sea-Boy -- childhood versions of Hollywood monsters "going to the scariest place they've ever been … the suburbs" as they "grow up... go to school and make monsters in the laboratory," and will be priced at $2.99 for download in both the PS3 and PC version of the PlayStation Store.

Said sales and marketing director Christopher Sturr, "The Cryptics, the first in a series of digital video comics for the PSP system, represents the evolution of technology and great story-telling talent to deliver a unique interactive multimedia experience for the digital generation. Guys like Steve Niles know what comic book fans want, and we're delivering that experience to comic fans in ways that they never thought possible."
