GameSpy Launches Direct2Game In-Game Commerce Engine

IGN Entertainment's GameSpy Technology division has announced Direct2Game, a new in-game commerce service for developers and publishers looking to set up in-game storefronts with subscriptions, microtransactions, item trading, and auctioning.

Direct2Game offers a reliable solution for selling and delivering maps, mods, expansions, sequels, soundtracks, and other forms of add-on content to gamers.

GameSpy has said it will provide full digital rights management, billing, and customer support to all Direct2Game developers.

“With the launch of our Direct2Game commerce service, GameSpy is now bridging its dual heritage in digital distribution and in-game technology, opening up new revenue streams and business models for publishers and developers,” said Jamie Berger, senior vice president of consumer products and technology for IGN Entertainment. “This new service further demonstrates our commitment to publishers and developers who want to directly offer new content and experiences to their valuable core fans.”
