Honestly I don't see this really doing anything, the Wii U is the new kid on the block and people prefer Xbox Live to PSN, a newer model wont change that.

I like the extra dust grooves they've built in.

The PS3 has always reminded me of an atari 5200. I wonder, is that controller meant to be in proportion to the size of the console, or is it out of proportion?

Well, it's nice that it's smaller and probably sucks down less power, but is it really going to get anyone who hasn't bought one yet to buy a one? $270's still not 'sure buy one for the other room' yet.

I've still got my fatty and I love it to bits. I think I'll pass. I've never liked Sony's slim consoles. Never bothered to upgrade to the PS2 slim and its awful flip top disc drive. Still have my launch model.

Nintendo should have been ready for this (and the new Playstation Store features) - but the failure of their launch announcement and the arrogant interviews and media direction has only led to their continued miss-message.
However - I am not a Nintendo-hater - so I have no disillusions to the reality that Nintendo has a loyal crowd that will ensure that they can salvage whatever situation. This new release from Sony will hurt in the West however. I expect a total restructuring of the executive structure at Nintendo after the full launch to address the online future, and clear the dead wood that has become far too complacent. |

I still haven't got a PS3 so this seems like a good time for me to jump in. Or within a handful of months at least. I don't see how it could do much to help Sony at this point though. The other slim model is still pretty small, and I'm seeing a good offer on that model in several stores. I wish they had added some functionality, like full backwards compability like some of the early PS3 model had.

No backward compatiblity with PS2?
No, don't want. Anyway, I promised that I would not buy a PS3 until both Versus XIII and Last Guardian came out anyway (promises made when those were announced... good that I did not promised to hold my breath :P) |

Another model? Again?? Every single step sony takes, leads me to believe that Playstation won't be around after the next generation of consoles..
Their hardware is worse then the Xbox. You can count their exclusives on 1 hand. Their Movement glow sticks are under performing even to the Kinect, but completely lose against Nintendo, PSN is laggy, buggy, and just not as good as Xbox's, who of course have more experience in that field. And their mobile devices are sales wise losing to Nintendo for years.. It's sad to see such an icon disappear, but.. Wait, no it isn't :P They've been making worse and worse decisions for years now.. Sometime sooner or later, you'll have to pay the piper.. |

What about those of us who want our consoles BIGGER!?
Seriously, the only thing that Sony could add to make me even slightly interested in the PS3 would be full backwards compatability with PSX and PS2. |

Is it just me or do slimmer models normally come with a price cut? This looks like a price increase.
Remember the PS2 was released at a $300 price tag. The price of these new slim models aren't much different from that. The people who still haven't bought a PS3 are waiting for it to drop to under $200 (or maybe even $100). They are missing a chance at expanding their install base. |

Price drop time Sony! Say, $199.99. That would kick up some sales. $269.99 s still just too much this deep in to the sales cycle.

Huh. I wasn't expecting a total Sony bashfest in the comments. It seems quaint. Almost archaic how people are responding to this. Like 2006 all over again.
I think it looks nice, aside from the grooves on top. It could have used a slightly lower price though. I already have the current slim PS3 and it uses only about 70 watts, so no need to get this one. I might consider it for the living room behind the wall-mounted TV. I really hope we get Muramasa for Vita in the US. If that happens, I'll replay the whole thing again and have one less Wii game to hold onto. |

I don't care much for the looks. What are the specs? How much less components does it use than the PS3 slim, energy output, and etc... Show me, then we'll talk. I'll buy one regardless down the road though. Just not when it's released.

Regardless of looks this really isnt going to impact Nintendo's fate either way.
