Most Popular Facebook Games: From FarmVille 2 to Zynga Poker

Every other week, Gamasutra examines the most popular Facebook games according to monthly active users, looking at the top titles and developers on the social network to see who's attracting or losing players.

With Zynga now putting its promotional muscle behind FarmVille 2 several weeks after its launch, the farming game has jumped up the Facebook Games Leaderboard to become the second most popular app on the social network, behind ChefVille.

The farming sim's sequel now has 39.6 million users, double the amount it counted just last week. Meanwhile the original FarmVille is still the eighth biggest game on Facebook with 18.4 million players, and its daily active user count doesn't appear to be dipping yet.

Other Zynga games have shed a large amount of users, though. ChefVille went from 57.1 million players two weeks ago to now 39.6 million, and Zynga Slingo dropped from 51.4 million to 35.1 million in the same amount of time. The Ville is also down to 21.7 million from 26.2 million.

At the moment, the top four games on Facebook are separated by only a few million users, which isn't usually the case. Notably, Zynga Poker/Texas HoldEm Poker, which rarely strays from the top spots, remains steadfast with 39.3 million players, a little bit more than two weeks ago.

You can see the full list of the top 20 Facebook games below:
