Newsbrief: Valve has launched a new "Software" tab on its popular Steam digital distribution service, offering developers the option to purchase and download development tools directly through Steam.

The section of the online shop has launched with such tools as GameMaker: Studio, 3DMark 11 and ArtRage Studio Pro, as well as housing Valve's own Source Filmmaker tools.

Each piece of software takes advantage of Steam's automatic updates and the Steam Cloud save space, while a number also use the Steamworks features, like GameMaker: Studio.
