Newsbrief: Microsoft has released an update for the Kinect for Windows SDK, launching the kit in China and exposing more of the hardware's capabilities to the API.

Developers can now access the sensor's 3-axis accelerometer to detect the hardware's orientation, while depth data taken from the sensor can now reach beyond 4 meters (although this is beyond the certified range and is of a lower accuracy).

Elsewhere, extra color camera settings like brightness and exposure allow developers to tune Kinect to the environment better, while Kinect's infrared stream has now also been exposed to the API, meaning devs can utilize the stream to, for example, capture grayscale images in low-light situations.
