Radar Confirms Official Launch, Reveals Prey 2

Following recent reports that 3D Realms founder Scott Miller (Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein 3D) and industry veteran Jim Perkins had founded a new production company called Radar Group, the company announced its official public launch.

Additionally, Radar Group, originally founded in 2007, revealed that its first three projects would be Earth No More, Incarnate and Prey 2.

Earth No More is a shooter featuring an ensemble cast who must work together to survive a severe environmental event. The player is cast as DHS chemical weapons specialist Will Foster, among the first to respond to a gas attack on Washington. The title will be released on next-gen consoles and PC, and is in development in collaboration with Recoil Games.

Incarnate features the reincarnated souls of evil people from history in present-day Chicago, and protagonist Thomas Ludlow must hunt them down. It is being developed with support from a yet-unannounced studio.

Finally, Prey 2 is a sequel to the previous Prey, promising to build on the original's portal and gravity-based gameplay in a science-fiction world. Human Head is working with Radar on the development, and the title will be released on Xbox 360 and PC.

The company defined its mission: "Radar Group co-creates original IP, designed from the ground up, for successful leveraging in game and film markets." Radar Group has also partnered with L.A.-based Depth Entertainment in the film space, who it says will leverage Radar's game properties. Depth Entertainment president Scott Faye is currently producing the Max Payne film in conjunction with 20th Century Fox.

The company also stressed the belief that independent studios must maintain part ownership of their homegrown IP in order for studios and the industry as a whole to thrive.

Said chief creative officer Scott Miller, "We’re something our industry desperately needs. Radar is teaming up with many of the industry’s top independent studios to help them create original IP in which they own a substantial ownership stake. Why is this important? Because in today’s industry it’s nearly impossible, unless you’re Epic or Valve, to create original games and not give away full IP ownership to the publisher. Radar believes that creators should share ownership, and all of the long-term benefits that come from that.”
