End of Nations future uncertain following Petroglyph layoffs - report

It's looking likely that End of Nations studio Petroglyph Games has suffered layoffs this week, following an uncertain future for the Trion Worlds-published MMORTS.

A report from Eurogamer says that 30 staffers have been let go at the Las Vegas-based studio, and a tweet from End of Nations writer and game designer Adam Stevens confirms that layoffs have occurred.

"Well, it appears this Winter break will be extended indefinitely," he tweeted. "Layoffs at Petroglyph. Looking like I'll be leaving Las Vegas." Gamasutra has contacted Petroglyph to confirm the layoffs.

This comes as just last month, Trion stated that it was postponing the open beta phase for End of Nations, as it has "identified several key areas of the game which need polish and improvement."

As part of the move, the company refunded money form the game's preorders, and a link to the game was removed from the official Petroglyph forums, leading some players to believe that the game is due to be cancelled (although community manager Myll Erik noted at the time, "End of Nations has not been cancelled!"

This isn't the first time that End of Nations has been delayed. Since its initial reveal back in 2010, the game was delayed into 2012 last year. This latest delay takes the game into at least 2013.
