Off the back of decreased profits and revenues for the last fiscal year, Electronic Arts has secured the rights to the FIFA Soccer series for another 10 years.

FIFA is one of EA's best-selling franchises -- the latest release, FIFA 13, sold 14.5 million units during the 2013 fiscal year, up 30 percent compared to FIFA 12 sales.

Not only that, but the FIFA series sees strong digital sales too. Total digital revenue for FIFA products during the last fiscal year reached $350 million, with $200 million coming from FIFA 13.

So it's no surprise that EA Sports has made sure to be granted an extension on its existing licensing agreement from the International Federation of Association Football, allowing the company to release FIFA-branded games up until December 31, 2022.

EA's FIFA series has been running for 20 years now, with more than 65 million matches played each week by consumers. FIFA 14 is currently in development.
