Newsbrief: The executive shake-up continues at Square Enix, as the company's U.S president and CEO Mike Fischer has quit, according to media reports.
Fischer previously joined Square Enix in 2010. Polygon reports that he is now vice president of digital music and video for Amazon in Japan, and that he left Square Enix on good terms.
UPDATED: We have reached out to Square Enix for confirmation and received the following statement: "We can confirm that Mike Fischer is no longer with Square Enix. We'd like to thank Mike for all of his efforts and contributions to the company and to its employees."
With how poorly Final Fantasy has done post-7, it's a wonder that the company can still keep operating at this rate.
I remember reading an article back then that FF X cost them about $200 million to make, and it was ungodly awful. Considering how each successive entry has gotten worse and worse... including that big fiasco wherein one of their single biggest shareholders just dumped all his Square-Enix stock after seeing the debacle that FF XIV was shaping up to be pre-release, and the fact that they continually seem to ignore the very fans that enabled them to get so big...
Honestly, I'm just surprised that they still have enough people willing to throw them money given the kind of product they keep releasing. I feel bad for the guy, especially since in companies like this, he might have been a CEO in name only... and all the actual decision-making power was actually from their Japanese HQ, thus rendering him as little more than a glorified public relations figurehead.
