Newsbrief: Shanghai-based outsourcing specialist Virtuos continues with its expansion plans this week, as the company has announced the opening of a new office in San Francisco.

This is Virtuos' second U.S. studio, and the company says it will allow for better service to Californian clients. The new branch is being managed by Jake DiGennaro (pictured), who previously served as PR management at Telltale and Topware.

Virtuos most recently opened a production studio in China, with the aim to better server its clients with more outsourced content on more platforms.

The company says that it is currently contributing to nearly a dozen titles on the upcoming PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, as well as "a major franchise’s adaptation from console to mobile."

Boo!

With all the EA, and Zygna layoffs lately perhaps we could invest in in our own people? It makes me sick to think of all of the out of work artists in Canada and the United States that could work on "nearly a dozen titles on the upcoming PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles". That statement alone feels like a slap in the face to all artists looking for work.

I'm a bit confused, Terry. They opened an office in San Francisco that may eventually hire some of those people you're talking about. What exactly is the problem?

Opening an outsource office to move work away more effectively does not help those people.

calm down, it's just an office. i don't think there would be any big change

Calm down? Agreed with Terry. I know so many Americans / Canadian game industry workers, with kids that can't find work.

This article and the goofy face in the title are absolutely ridiculous. Like it's good news that you'll hire what, 2 - 3 Americans at a median salary, to help orchestrate work from a shop of 30 overseas employees? Someone has to do something about this, keep work in the country or enjoy short term gain for even worst longterm pain (more local layoffs, more problems). People that work in this industry are unscrupulous and should be ashamed to promote work that hurts their own local people.
