Amazon launches dedicated indie games storefront

Newsbrief: Online retail giant Amazon has launched an "Indie Games Store" on its website, with the aim to highlight indie games and help indie devs reach more consumers.

Apart from a newly launched Indie Spotlight section, in which the company talks to indie developers about their games, Amazon is also selling numerous bundles of indie games, with 100 percent of sales from these bundles apparently going directly to the developers.

Amazon says that offering a special area for indie games "helps customers learn about more creative games and the people and processes behind building those games."

You can find more information in the Indie Games section on Amazon.

I'm starting to like Amazon. It's nice to see a company that's actively adjusting and evolving to the times in a way that seems benevolent (or just not corrupt, for a lack of better words).

Love this!
Also I'm still a little surprised they decided to go into game dev themselves... can anyone guess the rationale? Even as app store owners it doesn't make much sense to compete with your own (risky) products..

Amazon has had dedicated reps on some of the game forums I frequent. They have been a fantastic addition to the communities. They are responsive and highly receptive to suggestions from forum members.
