UPDATE 1:11 PM PDT The move has been confirmed by Zynga. Mattrick has been named CEO while founder Mark Pincus is to continue as chairman of the board and chief product officer. You can find the full story here.

Newsbrief: Multiple outlets including AllThingsD are reporting that the president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, Don Mattrick, is departing the company to become CEO of Zynga.

Mattrick, who famously said during last month's E3 that backwards compatibility for consoles was "backwards" thinking, and that the solution to Xbox One's then-publicized 24-hour check-in requirement was to buy an Xbox 360, is expected to officially announce his new position at Zynga as early as later today, after markets close.

Gamasutra has reached out to Zynga and Microsoft for comment and we expect to have more for you soon.

DRM, always on internet, access to user-data on a granular level. Now Mattrick is getting everything he wanted from the XboxOne with Zynga.

WOW....so not only is Mattrick leaving, he's going to the only video game company that's had a rougher month than Microsoft? This is so surreal....

A good way to show the world how badass you are is fixing a sinking ship and making it sail faster tand farther than it did before. The man clearly loves a challenge.

Zynga will be more of a holding pattern until something better comes along just like Phil Harrison's time at Atari.

That BIG restructuring is going to be very bloody - seem the MS investor demand a root and branch rethink - a lot of people that were parachuted into their comfy MS positions will not be under the microscope regarding their "value" for the entertainment division!

Will EA's restructuring be a smooth?
