We need to show off UK's thriving game sector, says industry trade group
"We know that the official statistics are not as good as they should be and we need much better official statistics on the true size and shape of the game industry."
- UKIE CEO Jo Twist says that the video game industry in the UK is thriving, but that official government numbers are putting a downer on this growth.
As part of a UK Music hosted panel attended by Develop, Twist from industry trade body UKIE said that
the official statistics showing how many game studios are based in the UK are not adequate, and that the government needs to work to recognize more teams.
By showing off the country's thriving games sector, the government could help to attract even more studios to the UK, claims Twist.
UKIE is currently looking to help the government do just that -- "We are working with the ONS (Office for National Statistics) to make sure the government's own system is picking up all the companies it should be."
By highlighting success stories and drawing attention to areas where plenty of new studios are popping up, Twist says that more attention can be brought to areas outside of London that are currently thriving.
