Audio technology company Dolby Laboratories announced the availability of software development kits for Dolby Axon, a voice communication platform designed to deliver 3D voice experiences in online games and virtual worlds.
Dolby Axon's features include 3D voices with surround panning and distance attenuation, an occlusion engine that matches voices with game geometry, voice fonts, an API for developers to integrate into their games, and a Dolby voice pipeline that filters unwanted noise, echo, clipping, and leveling problems.
In addition to advertising Axon's scalability supporting thousands of users per server across multiple servers, Dolby says that its platform is bandwidth efficient and is available through several hosting options. Axon also offers gamer operators server and abuse monitoring tools.
“Building on our strengths as an entertainment technology company, we’ve created Dolby Axon to offer game developers a powerful voice platform and gamers an incredible voice experience,” says Dolby Laboratories' Games Market senior manager Matt Tullis. “We want Dolby Axon to be the voice platform of choice for the most innovative and creative game developers in the world.”
