Make apps that make life easier - including for Google Glass - at ADC
GDC sister event App Developers Conference
organizers are highlighting just a slice of Lifestyle Apps
Track talks for the early November show: Trulia on its Google Glass real estate app, Square on Expressionist app design, and 'remember everything app' Evernote on best practices for new user experiences.
From the creators of the largest and longest-running game professional-focused Game Developers Conference
(GDC), the brand new App Developers Conference (ADC) offers professionals a venue to share their knowledge about building, designing, marketing, and selling their apps. ADC will run November 5th-7th at the Los Angeles Convention Center and will be co-located with GDC Next
The future will be wearable, and in 'Trulia Case Study on Designing and Developing for Google Glass,'
Trulia senior director of UX design David Hatch and VP of engineering Jeff McConathy will share the lessons they learned while building one of the device's first prototype apps, real estate locator Trulia for Glass
. The two will also discuss what wearable consumer technology means for the future of mobile technology, and how developers and designers can keep up with it.
In 'Evernote Case Study: Designing First Impressions that Last,'
product manager Naomi Pilosof and senior product designer Kara Hodecker explain how designing around a new user's first impressions was key to Evernote
's success. Hodecker and Pilosof will discuss how their team identified how (and when) to best explain how Evernote worked to new users, and how to quickly suggest different ways users can make use of Evernote's extensive feature set.
Designing apps with wireframes and photo editing software needlessly saddles us with real-world limitations, argues Square product design lead Martin Pedrick (formerly of Apple and 80/20). In his talk, titled 'From Old Masters to Expressionism,'
Pedrick will show Square's new open-source tools that will help developers take advantage of our powerful mobile devices to build apps not limited by physical media.
These sessions join a number of previously announced talks by Netflix, Square, and more -- all of which are now available on our expanding interactive Session Scheduler
. Recent session highlights
include internet radio service Pandora's web to mobile app transition, Rotoshop animation software creator Bob Sabiston on comparing his design and UI approaches for Nintendo and Apple hardware, and Tumblr on bad habits for mobile software developers and navigating the "always connected" myth.
Also of note, ADC organizers have shared survey results from over 250 app developers
on issues they face currently, including piracy and discoverability on app stores. Those interested in the study can view all of the results for free.
