Newsbrief: 3D character animation firm Mixamo has announced the release of Fuse on Steam, a 3D character modeler program to aid the fast generation of royalty-free creations for use in animation and games.

Fuse comes packed in with Valve models, textures and other materials among its character generation assets. Users are able to save and share models freely as well as import them into game development platforms, animation software and machinima software such as Valve's own Source Filmmaker.

"As more and more people want to create compelling 3D and game content, there is an increasing need for new tools that are easy to use and that enable users to share assets and collaborate on their projects," Valve's Mark Richardson said in conjunction with the announcement. "Fuse is a great example of how to offer all that while also delivering high-quality assets."

Awesome, Mixamo is everywhere and one of those companies really moving forward tools for animation. Great for indies, mids that need to setup characters and don't have immense budgets but can produce quality work. Their real-time facial animation system is very slick.

No mention of how you have to pay 400$ to rig? that or 10$ an animation

You get a couple of auto-rigs for free to start, and one free rig per week. Rigs are normally $79.

Dear Abdullah, not sure where you saw those numbers, you have 2 free autorigs when you sign up plus all Fuse users get 1 free every week. If you need more auto-rigged characters are $79 for download or you can get unlimited access to ALL Mixamo services for $1,500 a year with www.mixamo.com/allaccess

So my embarrassing earlier comment aside, would this be worth it to an aspiring game maker? like would this be able to handle non humanoids like dogs or octopuses. Also does it have different skin colors besides white and tanned white? Last but not least, lets say that from the pre made selection of textures and assets nothing fits what I'm looking for, would I be able to import into Fuse or should I go through a different program?

Fuse itself currently wouldn't help you for anything other than a humanoid. There are a preset number of body types that you can choose between. So you can choose between 5 different basic head models and 5 different arm models, etc... Then mix and match to make a unique body. Then you can change the textures for further variation. The best way to see if it would meet your needs is to download the demo.

Abdullah, the content can already be expanded, specifically substances/textures.
Thanks
