Konami 'Actively Looking Into' MGS4 on Xbox 360

Though rumors about an Xbox 360 version of Metal Gear Solid 4 have circulated regularly since well before the game's launch, Konami appears to have confirmed at least the likelihood of a port.

"We're actively looking into a release for the Xbox 360," a Konami rep told Japanese investment research firm Morningstar at the Tokyo Game Show, according to a translation by consumer site IGN.

Metal Gear franchise creator Hideo Kojima has been widely quoted against the rumor mill, frequently stating that the game was designed specifically for the PS3 hardware; Sony has often touted that MGS4 is only possible on the PlayStation 3, and Konami calls the title "the first software for PlayStation 3 that uses the full capacity of the Blu-Ray Disc," although of course the technical veracity of such statements hasn't been proven.

Konami has said MGS4 shipped 3 million units worldwide on its launch day, and it still continues to make the top five in various regional sales charts regularly since its June 12th launch. In August, the publisher said sales of the game -- which helped lead Konami to a 117 percent sales boost -- were "steadily increasing."

Proof once again that if you just wait a few months, any non-first party Sony 'exclusive' will eventually find itself on the 360. It's basic economics; there are more 360 users, so there are likely to be more sales of a 360 version of your game.

Monopolization is just a joke when it meets economic interest. I still remember Resident Evil series on GameCube. However, I'm expecting for the next version of MGS.

I have the feeling that exclusivity is losing its importance, anyway. What do ya'll think?

With Metal Gear Solid 4 being one of the few titles that would justify my purchase of a PS3, I believe its current exclusivity is extremely valuable to Sony. There are a lot of Metal Gear fans out there.

I can settle for waiting a year to get a 4-disc Xbox Metal Gear Solid 4 rather than shelling out another $500 on a new console. I've got plenty of games to play already.

I agree with John, it does seem that there are fewer and fewer exclusives, between PS3 & Xbox anyway. As an Xbox owner myself, that at one point would have loved nothing more than to turn a PS3 into a really shiny toaster, I feel that there is still too much platform-racism, Xbox fanboys swear by theirs, PS3 and PC, even Wii, all have their dedicated fanbase that says the other platforms “suck” but at the end of the day aren’t we all doing the same thing? We all play games, we all love gaming so why the divide?

Even genre’s like the RTS are coming to consoles with an increasing amount of success. Like Qian He said “Monopolization is just a joke when it meets economic interest.” At the end of the day the best way to get the most people to play your game is to go multiplatform. While settle for only a high-end PC user fanbase when you can have Xbox and PS3 users?

At the end of the day for me this lack of exclusivity isn’t a bad thing. Sure I’d like to invest in a PS3 eventually but for the time being the thought of playing MGS4 sounds very sweet indeed.

We'll see. Even if it was ported, if the talk about it using the PS3 to its fullest are true, it would be interesting to see how it fares on 360. But between you and me, we all kinda knew they would at least think about it...
