Newsbrief: When Take-Two bought the rights to Turtle Rock Studios' Evolve for $10.9 million at auction from bankrupt THQ last year, there was a fair bit of speculation about the new project.

Today Game Informer reports that Evolve is a multiplayer-focused sci-fi shooter that leans heavily on the sort of team-based competitive gameplay that defined Turtle Rock's biggest claim to fame, Left 4 Dead.

The new game includes a five-player multiplayer mode which pits four people playing as hunters -- each with their own arsenal, abilities, and presumably personalities -- against a monstrous alien, controlled by the fifth player, which grows and evolves during the course of a match.

Evolve is expected to release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC later this fall.

Correction: This article originally said Take-Two bought Turtle Rock at auction -- actually, Take-Two just bought the rights to Evolve, not the whole studio. Sorry for any confusion.

Seems a lot like Damned, but with a different environment (sci-fi vs. Lovecraftian-style horror)...
