Some League of Legends players in the UK are having trouble downloading the latest update for the game, thanks to child internet safety measures taken by the British government.

The UK government has put a firewall in place with new internet connections, that attempts to block porn by default and protect children searching the web.

However, as reported by The Guardian, the latest update for LoL contains files with the names VarusExpirationTimer.luaobj and XerathMageChainsExtended.luaobj -- note the "sex" string that can be spotted in both file names.

As a result, these files are not being downloading properly, and the game is throwing up "file not found" errors to those affected.

It would appear that the only course of action at this point is to contact your ISP and ask for them to turn the filter off, before attempting to download the update again.

Fortunately the issue is not affecting the majority of LoL players in the UK, since the filter is only activated for new internet accounts connected in the last month.

UK actually went with this porn filter idea?
How bloody stupid can one be to pass such a regulation?

very stupid.

quite dangerous to block porn imho. Same as restricting access to prostitutes. Especially for frustrated men who are stuck on an island, where most girls are already teen mom's.

*looks at porn* nope, no filter here. Perhaps it is specific to an IP rather than a national thing. Like how BT Infinity are currently blocking everything Uplay related from Ubisoft.

This could be why you have no filter?

That must suck for young players. "Mum, can you turn off the porn filter? I swear it's just for a game!"

Let's see... consentual viewing of porn. Better block that.

Unwanted spam constantly plaguing normal email trafic. Thank god this is still unblocked.

I think reasoning is that one is wrong because someone with more influence than you says so, and also doesn't think you're capable of governing yourself. And the other may or may not have the potential of making them money/affect the big business's that fund said influential

It's also easier to block porn than to stop unwanted spam. Especially if you use crude and ignorant measures such as "block any file with sex in it", which has just proven itself to be a blanket measure.
