Survey: Wal-Mart Most-Visited U.S. Games Retailer

Wal-Mart is the most popular video game retail spot in the U.S., according to a survey by consumer website IGN -- putting it ahead of rivals like Best Buy and GameStop/EB Games.

The question was asked as part of IGN’s recent "Are You Game?" survey, conducted by Ipsos during October.

Pollsters talked to 1,997 individuals aged between 12 and 54 and asked where they were most likely to buy a game – but not necessarily which retailer they considered to be superior.

Wal-Mart was named by 64 percent of respondents, comfortably ahead of Best Buy and GameStop/EB Games, which both stood at 54 percent. Target was the fourth most popular choice at 41 percent, followed by both Circuit City and Amazon on 28 percent.

Online auction site eBay was mentioned by 24 percent of those polled, followed by Toys ‘R’ Us at 21 percent and Blockbuster at 17 percent.

Separately of the survey, it's also anecdotally believed that Wal-Mart continues to be the biggest video game retailer by volume in the United States, just pipping GameStop/EB Games to the honor -- though no recent statistics confirming this have been made available.
