Rocksteady Studios announced
today that it will be developing its third Batman
game, Batman: Arkham Knight
, exclusively for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The game is reportedly due out sometime in 2014 and will serve as the conclusion to Rocksteady's soon-to-be trilogy of Batman
It's worth pointing out this is the first game Rocksteady has announced since it shipped Batman: Arkham City
in 2011. The two previous Batman
games published by Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment -- Batman Origins
and Batman Origins: Blackgate
-- were developed by Warner Brothers Games Montreal and Armature Studios, respectively.
Rocksteady was named one of Gamasutra's Top 30 Developers of 2012
based on its track record of making great decisions early in the development process that make the most of its strengths.
Rocksteady founder Sefton Hill said during a DICE 2012 talk that the team made a key decision to make "the world's smallest open-world game" during development of Batman: Arkham City
, so its interesting to see that the studio's next game purportedly incorporates a "fully realized" Gotham City environment that can be traversed via Batmobile.
