GameSpy's hosting services -- part of Glu Mobile since 2012
-- are going down for good on May 31, according to an announcement
on the company's site.
The statement reads in total, "Effective May 31, 2014, GameSpy will cease providing all hosted services for all games still using GameSpy. If you have any questions about how this impacts your favorite title please contact the game’s publisher for more information. Thanks for a great ride!"
Glu ceased licensing out GameSpy's networking technology at the beginning of this year. It had already drawn the ire
of clients who still relied on its middleware and services by late last year.
Nintendo, which had relied on GameSpy
in the prior generation -- Wii and the original DS -- had already announced
that its games for those platforms would cease functioning online as of May 20.
Now, it seems that all developers and publishers who'd relied on the tech to keep their games running will be left in the dark.
