Dungeon Defenders developer Trendy Entertainment announced today that it has hired Darrell Rodriguez as its new CEO.

Rodriguez is a game industry veteran who served stints as COO of EA Los Angeles and, later, as president of LucasArts, a position he held for two years before resigning in 2010.

Since then he has served in a number of roles, including chief creative officer of casino gaming company International Game Technology.

In addition to a Dungeon Defenders sequel on PC and Mac, Trendy has made a show of working on something it calls the 'playverse' -- a cross-platform game development platform intended to help independent developers more easily bring their games to multiple markets.

"Given our work on playverse, a multifaceted toolkit designed 'for devs by devs,' our real test going forward will be not only how well we do for ourselves, but how well we empower other like-minded developers to unlock their own potential and nurture their own visions," Rodriguez stated in a press release announcing his hire. "It's a richer set of responsibilities to take on as an executive, and I'm looking forward to it."
