VentureBeat reports that Unity Technologies has purchased Playnomics, the mobile game analytics firm, for an undisclosed sum.

Playnomics makes its money selling predictive analytics and marketing services to game developers. Last year it announced a partnership with Unity that -- among other things -- earned Playnomics preferred partner status in the Unity Asset Store Online Services program, where it sells access to its PlayRM (player retention management) platform for online and mobile games.

VentureBeat posits that the acquisition is part of Unity's greater plan to build itself into a developer's "one-stop shop for game tools and services," and Playnomics' suite of services would seem to complement Unity's own Unity Cloud suite of mobile game promotion and monetization tools.

Gamasutra has reached out to representatives of both Unity and Playnomics for confirmation and further comment on the news.

UPDATE: Unity has confirmed the acquisition in a blog post penned by CEO David Helgason.

"We’re continuing our steps forward towards providing all of the developers using Unity the best tools to make their businesses a success after the process of creating an awesome game is complete," Helgason writes.

Next step in Unity strategy - we are unable to develop something realy good, so we buy something else and we will try and fail to integrate it properly.

Unity have good goal and philosophy, but their coders, simple arent good enough. This is why we will still havent AAA game created in Unity. There are still adding new and new features, but they are unable to fix some years old core problems with engine performance (game is useless if is too slow), GUI etc..
