UK Developer Frontier Reaches 200 Employee Milestone

Independent developer Frontier announced that it now employs 200 people at its Cambridge, UK studio, and is looking to hire more in the face of recent lay-offs, canceled projects, and diminished revenue forecasts affecting the game industry.

Founded in 1993, Frontier has worked on a number of successful titles in the past 15 years, such as the Rollercoaster Tycoon franchise, the Thrillville series, and most recently LostWinds for WiiWare.

The company has several projects currently in development, including action thriller The Outsider. The title will appear on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, though no firm release date has been announced.

Frontier hasn't revealed many details about the title yet, but promises that it will "give the player genuine freedom to change the story outcomes in a way not seen before."

"We are working on some tremendously exciting projects in several genres, and we are continuing to build an exceptional, meritocratic organization that allows talented people to contribute their best work and progress in an open, stimulating and professional atmosphere," says Frontier founder and chairman David Braben.

"We have always planned for the long term and remain as passionate as ever about the creative, technical and commercial potential of the medium."
