Q-Games Talks Next PixelJunk Project

Q-Games' PixelJunk Eden has received widespread critical acclaim with three nominations for this year's Independent Games Festival Awards: Excellence in Visual Art, Excellence in Audio, and Technical Excellence.

It was also nominated at Spike's Video Game Awards and was one of Gamasutra's Top 10 Games of 2008. So, aside from bringing fan favorite PixelJunk Monsters to the PSP this year, what's the studio up to now?

"A new team has started in on the next PixelJunk project," studio director Kentaro Yoshida recently told Gamasutra, as part of an extensive new interview on the studio's project evolution.

"We have not yet begun publicizing the game, but it is on schedule to be released in early 2009," Yoshida says. "Another title in the series is Dungeons, which we announced back at the Game Developers Conference.

Planning to set aside more time for the development of Dungeons, Yoshida says it will release after the fourth game in the PixelJunk series.

But Q-Games plans to take some departures from its previous work: "2D graphics have been a hallmark of the series so far," Yoshida notes, "but we are looking to incorporate 3D graphics and take the series in new directions."
