Today, Unity released version 4.5 of its engine, including a variety of enhancements, including over 450 fixes to the program.

Notably, OpenGL ES 3.0 support has now come to the latest iOS devices in Unity 4.5, and its overall support of the standard has been improved in this release. Changes have been made to the 2D physics engine added when the 2D game package was brought to the engine last fall, bringing it "better into line with the functions and conventions of our 3D physics system" according to the company.

The company has also released a module manager which will allow developers to get fixes for different components of Unity -- for example, a change in Android support -- without waiting for the company to do a full, new release of the engine. More details on this specifically are available on the company's site, which also has a rundown of what's new for 4.5 as well as full release notes.

Unity has plans to continue to support the 4.x version of its engine for the foreseeable future, with 4.6 already in the works. Unity 5.0 is also in development, though a release date has yet to be announced.
