Newsbrief: Sony has confirmed that a PlayStation 4 and PS Vita combined retail bundle is on the way, as the company looks to utilize the success of the PS4 to help drive Vita sales.

"The Ultimate Player Edition," as it is dubbed, has been confirmed as coming to the UK, although Sony said to Eurogamer that its availability in other regions "will be determined and announced on a regional basis."

Sony said back in February that around 60 percent of PlayStation 4 owners also own a PS Vita handheld.

One thing that could help Vita sales is a bit of visibility. At my local Target, for example, there are only six to eight Vita games on display, flanked by PS4 games, which means that they could easily be mistaken for PS4 games by the casual customer. Also, the console itself is nowhere in sight. You have to bend down and look carefully inside the glass box at the rear end of the aisle to see it (and then you only see the price tag and not much of the Vita's box itself). It is pretty much impossible to find unless you are looking diligently for it.

This means that the average customer will walk out of the video game section not even knowing that the Vita exists.

I would by far rather have a PS4 and a Vita than an Xbox One and a Kinect!

Price is going to be the key here. If the only real savings is the number of boxes players have to open then I don't think this will boost Vita sales much.

I've been strongly debating picking up a PS4 and Vita for a couple of months now. If this package deal makes it to Canada with reasonable savings, they've definitely got at least one new customer.
