Resident Evil 5 Demo Gets 1.8 Million Downloads

Capcom's recently released Resident Evil 5 demo on Xbox Live hit 1.8 million downloads over the weekend, says Microsoft.

Globally, more than 1.3 million Xbox Live members downloaded the demo in the first three days following its January 26th release. The demo was exclusive to Xbox Live gold members during these three days, becoming available to non-paying silver members from January 29th.

The demo was first released in Japan in December as Biohazard 5, and was downloaded by more than 53 percent of Japanese Xbox Live gold members.

The Xbox 360 demo was a one-week exclusive for Microsoft’s platform, with the PlayStation 3 version to be available on February 2nd. No data has yet been provided for its release.

One of the most anticipated titles of this Spring, the full game is due for release simultaneously on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 5th in Japan, and on March 13th in North America and Europe.

I played it. Very impressive demo for sure. This is looking to be a great game for 2009, but I hope Resident Evil 6 (which I'm sure is in the concept stage at least) goes back to it's roots. Resident Evil 1 had the player dragging the (usually damaged) protagonist slowly through a creepy mansion with 1 bullit in your gun, and new zombies popping out of corners of rooms you've explored several times before. This created a sense of despair the series has gotten away from. Dont get me wrong, Resident Evil 5 looks great, and so far plays great, and I havn't seen the whole thing obviously, but I'd love to see the next one a little more Resident Evil-like.

I agree. I'll buy it for sure, but this looks like an action game that has the RE name and awkward controls. I also used to be really excited about the co-op but Left 4 dead ruined me. The game can't be the same with 2 people. But this is one of the best looking games I have ever seen for sure.

I like the new style of RE but I do agree that it's much different than the old. I think Capcom should make both styles of games and not stop making one or the other.
