Newsbrief: Game services studio PlayFab, founded earlier this year by former PopCap business veteran James Gwertzman, today launched its range of backend tools, and announced that it has raised $2.5 million in a new round of funding.

PlayFab was first revealed back in April, and aims to provide developers with the easy-to-use tools to help you focus on making your game, instead of having to worry so much about the business side.

The tools and services include cross-platform player accounts, multiplayer game server hosting, virtual goods management, data storage, matchmaking, leaderboards, analytics, push notifications and more.

PlayFab supports numerous game engines, including Unity Unreal, Cocos2d-x and Xamarin. Interested developers can visit the PlayFab website, and try it out for free.
