Pokemon developer Game Freak is making its first mobile game
Pokemon developer Game Freak is making its first mobile game
August 19, 2014 | By Alex Wawro

Newsbrief: Siliconera reports that Pokemon developer Game Freak is making its first foray into mobile development, as it prepares to bring its self-published downloadable Nintendo 3DS game Soliti Horse to Japanese Android and iOS devices as a free-to-play title later this year.

It's a sign that the veteran Japanese game developer is adapting to the rapid expansion of the mobile game market, which surpassed the shrinking Japanese console market in sales last year.

However, there's currently no indication that Nintendo plans to tap Game Freak to make a Pokemon game for mobile devices, though the company has been making a show of considering how it might address smartphones and tablets.

It's worth noting that The Pokemon Company, a subsidiary of Nintendo that handles the Pokemon brand, recently announced its first mobile game as well: a tablet version of The Pokemon Trading Card Game.

I really hope they make an AR Pokémon game using 3GS where you catch Pokémon in real life. Urban areas would have urban style Pokémon, beaches would have sandy things etc. and legendaries would be in extremely hard to reach locations. Different Pokémon would come from legitimate geographical regions, and all trading has to be done locally. So you'd have to meet people from other countries or go there to get the different Pokémon.

Of course, I expect none of this to happen, but it'd be pretty awesome.
