PlayStation Expands Into Latin America

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has announced it is expanding its PlayStation business into Latin America, with the PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation 2 becoming officially available in 13 different countries in the region.

SCEA will partner with Sony Latin America to bring not only hardware and software but also the PlayStation Network. Additionally, localized versions of the official PlayStation.com website will also be introduced in selected countries.

"Our commitment to expand PlayStation business into Latin America supports our vision to provide access to social entertainment experiences that can be shared among friends and family from around the world," says Mark Stanley, director and general manager of Latin America at SCEA.

"This expansion is the direct result of us listening closely to our community, and we're proud to deliver premium hardware and software services that will allow them to easily connect, play and communicate with one another."

I am very curious of what the pricing will be.

This is good news...the Latin American market is booming at the moment and its a good idea for big companies to jump in the wagon ASAP, before it becomes cluttered.

The latin countries have always been "interesting" due to the large range from poor to wealthy. Alot of wealthy families already have everything from the states, and the latin market and hunger for games down there is huge, so definately I think pricing would be a huge factor, but coudl also create alot more jobs down there to. Just hope the games that get ported or created down there are on quality with what the rest of the world gets.

Looks like they'll be competing with Zeebo for that market.

You're right Randy, hopefully if companies start producing in LA, games will reflect that in their price and availability and we would stop paying import prices.
