Too bad. We need more non-fantasy themed RPGs.

Very true Tom. I like the fantasy stuff, but this could have been something special.

i just wonder how an RPG world would support a single monster type. aliens has always been more about horror and action.
I could see perhaps being in the role of say.. a terraforming colony exposed to a few eggs. kinda like being Newt from day one to the time you see her found by the marines.. still not sure thought.. but i'm a huge fan of these games and would love to see how they make an RPG work. Hopefully cancled was really "on hold" tilll later. i can see why they wouldn't want to release two similar products close together. |

Caleb, the term RPG doesn't really define the game itself. Technically you could call GTA San Andreas a 3rd person RPG because of the leveling up and the gradual increase of skill set. It has become a very broad term that defines an aspect of the game and not necessarily the game itself.
On that note...It disappoints me greatly that it has been canceled. After the profile in game informer I thought this might make a fun installment to the aliens franchise. Its unfortunate to see its demise. It looked like it has some innovative elements. |

@caleb: there actually was a proper pen+paper Aliens RPG in the 90s, published by Leading Edge.. can't find much on the internet about it though: http://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=3783&editionid=4150

Good call about needing more non-fantasy RGP's, better yet we just need more good RPG's

This is sad news. I really want to see more CRPGs get made. Obsidian, formed from Ex-Black Isle developers, is one of the only studios left that still makes them in the style that I like. Particularly NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer.
