Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo rally behind new game awards show

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo rally behind new game awards show

November 10, 2014 | By Alex Wawro

Veteran game industry personality Geoff Keighley announced plans today to produce The Game Awards, a new awards show that will see its debut broadcast live from the Axis Theater in Las Vegas on December 5th.

This is interesting because Keighley appears to be abandoning his long-running role as the producer and host of Spike TV's annual video game awards show (which has also historically occurred in December) and launching this new venture independently, with counsel from a host of advisory board members from around the industry.

Among the advisory board members are Xbox chief Phil Spencer, SCEA CEO Shawn Layden, and Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, as well as leading members of Electronic Arts, Kojima Productions, Valve, Rockstar and Ubisoft.

In a further show of support, the inaugural Game Awards event will be livestreamed online across a number of platforms, including the broadcast channels of Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Nintendo and Steam.
