Japanese Charts: Gundam Still Leads As Sales Sink Further

Sales in the Japanese software chart continued sinking this week -- the top-ranked game sold only 34,000 units. Although not traditionally a busy time of year for the market, the results are still below the norm of even a year ago.

Namco Bandai’s new Mobile Suit Gundam game on PSP remained at number one, with many older titles such as Mario & Luigi RPG 3 and Warriors Orochi Z moving back up the top 10 – also atypical for the Japanese charts.

The highest new entry of the week was Konami’s new baseball game for the Nintendo DS, a spin-off from their regular Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyu series. The game sold 27,000 units at number three.

The other new entry in the top 10 is horse racing simulation Winning Post World on PlayStation 3, at number nine.

The latest variant in Koei’s long running series sold just 13,000 units on its debut. The PlayStation 2 version of the same game appears at number 18 in the charts, but the Wii version did not chart in the top 30.

Outside of the top 10 the only other new entry is publisher 5pb’s visual novel 11eyes CrossOver for the Xbox 360, at number 13.

The full countdown for the week is as follows:
