Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart Most Popular Paid-For iPhone Game

Apple has revealed that Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart is the most popular paid-for video game on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The game is not just the most popular paid-for video game, but also the most popular paid-for download of any kind. It's one of the more expensive apps, currently available at $5.99.

Other paid-for games on Apple's top 20 downloads list include Pangea's Enigmo, PopCap's Bejeweled 2, Freeverse's Moto Chaser, EA's Tetris, Subatomic's Fieldrunners, Ethan Nicholas' iShoot and others.

The most popular free game app is Tapulous’ Tap Tap Revenge, although it ranks only fourth on the list, behind Facebook, Google Earth and Pandora Radio. Other games in the list include Namco’s Pac-Man, FlipSide5’s Touch Hockey: FS5 and Codify AB’s Labyrinth.

Although the dominance of games and entertainment media is similar, the most popular titles differ somewhat from the data revealed last month by analysts at comScore. The research firm named music game Tap Tap Revenge as the most popular application overall and did not place Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart in the top ten.

A total of 30 percent of the free-to-download titles were games and 70 percent of the paid-for titles.

Apple revealed the top Apps in conjunction with its one-billionth App Store download.
