Capcom Confirms Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Download

Capcom has confirmed that it will re-release the 2D fighting game Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: New Age Of Heroes for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this summer.

Although the remake's existence has been an open secret for some time now, with rumors based on everything from ESRB listings to licensed arcade sticks, Capcom only confirmed its release this week. The popular crossover title was first released in arcades in 2000, with subsequent conversions to the Dreamcast and then PlayStation 2 and Xbox.

Capcom hinted at a re-release in June of last year, when the publisher admitted to using the popularity of retro games on eBay as one of its guides to future re-releases or updates. At the time Capcom noted that an unopened copy of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 had recently sold for $455.

The new release of the game will be based on the Dreamcast version, with only minor changes to the graphics – primarily new filter options for use with HDTVs and a widescreen option. Other new features include an online multiplayer mode allowing up to four people to play and chat at the same time. All 56 characters, from Spider-Man to Jill Valentine, will be unlocked from the start.

Foundation 9 is adapting the game, which will launch on Xbox Live Arcade for 1,200 Microsoft Points ($15) and on the PlayStation Network for $15. A PlayStation Network demo is also due in North America on April 30th, with other regions to follow shortly thereafter.

Nice! MvC2 is one of the best 2D fighters ever. It would be nice to get a "true" HD version, but with the amount of time needed to redraw the animations, I'd rather have it this year instead of like 2012.

Morrigan's sprites are 2 decades old.

Morrigan will never get an update. Even if Darkstalkers or some Capcom fighter goes 3D, she'll retain her ugly 2D sprite.
