Rubin, Gavin Return To Game Biz With Monkey Gods

Naughty Dog co-founders Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin (Crash Bandicoot) have revealed their return to the game biz with Monkey Gods, a new casual-focused developer poised to launch puzzler Snood on iPhone.

The company's official website, apparently still under construction as of press time, has revealed that the firm has a broad remit.

The Los Angeles-based Monkey Gods is "focused on development and distribution of games for social networks, the IPhone, and game consoles including Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii."

However, the firm's first games include a conversion of existing Puzzle Bobble/Bust A Move-style puzzler Snood for Apple's iPhone, through a license with original developer David M. Dobson, with Facebook version promised in the near future.

In addition, the second title being worked on, Monkwerks, is described by third partner and COO Jason Kay (a veteran of the duo's previous non-game biz venture, Flektor, which was sold to Fox Interactive Media in 2007), as "a new twist on classic word-jumble games like Word Challenge or Scrabble." It's currently beta testing on Facebook.

Rubin adds in a blog post on the in-development site: "So we have game experience, web experience, social networking experience, and a love of all of them. Monkey Gods was started so we could work on our passions. We think you will see that in the games."

[Thanks to Geoff Keighley for first mentioning Monkey Gods' formation.]
