Bethesda And Splash Damage Announce Brink

Nearly a year after announcing their development partnership, Bethesda Softworks and Splash Damage have announced the product of that agreement: Brink.

Little is known about the game so far. The two companies revealed the game via a video teaser whose narrator described a peaceful utopia that was the "pinnacle of science and engineering" before -- judging from the explosions and guns firing during the teaser -- war broke out.

The game is due in Spring 2010 on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. The game will be making an appearance at E3 2009 in Los Angeles next week.

While little is known about Brink, we do know that Splash Damage is the studio behind the class-based online FPS Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, which was well-received. Splash Damage has also been on a publicized hiring spree, recruiting talent that worked on Criterion's first-person shooter Black, Ninja Theory's Heavenly Sword, and the lead designer on Fable II and the lead level designer for Killzone 2.

U.K.-based Splash Damage got its start creating PC mods, and was the developer of the popular Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

Bethesda PR man Pete Hines told Gamasutra in an interview earlier this year, "You can look at what [Splash Damage is] doing, and say, 'By God, I think they can pull it off. We should be talking to them and working with them on this.' And we are."

*yawn*... I think Splash Damage does good work, but I can't stand ambiguous trailers that say nothing about nothing. I'd rather see gameplay, even if early and rough. As far as the trailer has told me, it could be a Bejeweled clone. Not likely, but entirely possible.
