2009 E3 Confirms 41,000 Attendees, June 2010 Return

E3 show owner the ESA has announced attendance of 41,000 from 78 countries to this year's event, revealing the 2010 E3 Expo will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 15th-17th, 2010.

Debuting a press release as E3 wound to a close, the Entertainment Software Association, which scaled up the show again for this year after a couple of years of smaller E3 Business Summits, said that 216 exhibitors showcased their products at the event.

The company confirmed dates slightly later in June 2010 for next year's event, which will again take place at the LA Convention Center in Southern California.

According to the association, "The 2009 E3 Expo was designed to better meet the needs of exhibitors and attendees by focusing on value, while maintaining the excitement and energy that fuels the $22 billion U.S. marketplace for computer and video game entertainment."

Alongside the announcement, and in sharp contract to criticism of last year's E3 from a number of industry leaders, several major executives praised the way that this event has turned out.

“The ESA has put on a great show for the game industry," said Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello. "E3 2009 reflected the vitality, innovation and global presence of a rapidly growing industry. I'm already looking forward to next year's event."

“Xbox 360 was pleased to be a part of a rejuvenated E3 this year and to see the interactive entertainment industry really shine and reach new audiences,” said Don Mattrick, senior vice president, Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business. “We look forward to being at E3 next year and continuing to redefine the future of home entertainment.”

Simon, do you have the attendance numbers for E3 2005 and 2006 for comparison?

A quick Wikipedia check includes a sourced claim that E3 2005 has attendance of 70,000. On the otherhand, the "new" E3 of 2007-2008 involved no more then 5,000 each year.
