Sales of Nintendo's feature-laden DSi handheld declined 40 percent during the week ended June 7 to 38,783, still capturing the top spot, according to Media Create.
The DSi performed particularly strong the week prior, making for a tough comparison, when the DS games Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days from Square Enix and Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth from Capcom launched in Japan.
Both games have been on top of the weekly Japanese software charts since launch, significantly helping the console's prospects.
Media Create lists DS Lite hardware sales separately. The DSi's predecessor sold 5,664 during the week, bringing total Japanese sales for the DS line to 44,447 for the week.
The DS and PSP topped the hardware charts for the week, capturing the first and second spots, respectively. But on the console front, the Nintendo Wii, which sold 17,177, was able to outsell the PlayStation 3 for the fifth week in a row. PS3 outsold the Wii in March and April in Japan.
The full Japanese game hardware charts for the week of June 1-7, 2009 are as follows:
DSi: 38,783
PSP: 29,070
Wii: 17,177
PS3: 10,173
Xbox 360: 6,625
DS Lite: 5,664
PS2: 4,096
