Tecmo And Koei To Christen Merger With Crossover Titles

As separate companies, the newly-merged Tecmo and Koei focused on distinct brands -- Tecmo's got action-oriented Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden, while Koei's best known for the epic Dynasty Warriors franchise.

But a new investor guide translated by the Andriasang website suggests the companies may soon celebrate their union with a crossover product.

The Nikkei Corporate Quarterly has a short blurb on Koei-Tecmo that reads: "New Games: Will release games that combine Tecmo and Koei titles. The aim is to reach fans of both."

Koei has experience in the crossover arena before, combining with longstanding cross-media mecha property Gundam for Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, while Tecmo successfully extrapolated the characters from its DoA fighting game into a lighter sporting context with Dead Or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball, which also spawned a sequel.

Boobs and mecha crossover fighting game. I smell a match made in heaven.

I don't think the Dynasty Warriors IP has quite the same appeal as DoA/Ninja Gaiden in the States, but I guess I can see how Three Kingdoms fans might get a kick out of a crossover.

Combining the combat from Ninja Gaiden with the large scale battles of Dynasty Warriors would make for a very fun game. I don't have a clue if it is ever going to happen, but I can dream.

Frankly, I'd rather see them release Angelique to the Western market along with possible DoA tie-ins along the same lines. That is, focus on the character- and relationship-building franchises that are popular in Japan and other East Asian markets in order to expand the customer base in Western markets.

Interesting. Yet all I want to see from them is a Romance of the Three Kingdoms XII (heavy on the RPG elements and multiplayer).

Crossovers need to be executed in a particular way--I don't think tossing a crossover together willy nilly will work as well internationally as it does in Japan.

It will be really interesting to see. @Joshua I would think that it might be more of a case of the combat from Dynasty Warriors set in another IP seeing as how Koei has that patent:

Dead or Alive:Xtreme Beach Warriors

A bunch of bikini clad girls beating each other up with magic infused beach items, parasols with spiked ends; etc.
I would pre-order this today if it was announced.

I would have never thought an awesome company like Tecmo would ever merge with Koei.
