Japanese Charts: Sega's Infinite Space Topples Kingdom Hearts DS

Sega's DS-exclusive role-playing game Infinite Space debuted at number one on Media Create's Japanese software sales charts for the week ended June 14, followed by Square Enix's strong-selling Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days.

Infinite Space, which involves the customization of over 150 spaceships, sold 38,000 units during the week, pushing Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, another DS RPG, down a spot from its number one position a week prior.

Platinum Games, the studio founded by former members of Capcom's defunct Clover Studio, and Tokyo developer Nude Maker co-developed Infinite Space. We interviewed Nude Maker boss Hifumi Kouno last year.

Kingdom Hearts for DS debuted in late May, and held the top spot for two consecutive weeks on Media Create's charts. Despite arriving late in the month, the game was the top-selling title in Japan during May, selling nearly 300,000 units.

Infinite Space and Nintendo's Play On Wii: Chibi-Robo! were the only two new games on the top 10 charts for the week.

Falling off of the top 10 charts from a week ago were Marvelous' Half-Minute Hero (Yuusha 30) for PSP and Sega's Pro Yakyuu Team o Tsukurou 2 for DS.

Below are the Japanese sales charts for the week ended June 14:
