NIS Bets On PSP Download-Only For Holy Invasion Of Privacy, Badman!

With the launch of Sony's download-only PSP Go still months away, publisher NIS America is already taking the plunge into optical media-free releases with its next PSP game.

NIS says Acquire Corp.'s extravagantly-named strategy/puzzle game Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This?, originally scheduled for a UMD release, will be sold only through PlayStation Network when it launches on July 16 in North America.

The move is, in part, based on the high number of downloads the company has seen of the game's PSN demo -- a figure officially characterized as "tremendous." The final release will see a discounted price of $19.99.

Although PSP Go will not go on sale until this October, existing PSP users have access to the same online store owners of that hardware will.

Manufacturer Sony has said most PSP games will be available both through the PlayStation Network as well as at retail on the UMD format.

I don't usually think "tremendous" downloads and discounted prices go together. Perhaps I'm just to used to the download able games being the same price as physical games on the PSN, like GT5 Prologue. I hope the move works well for NIS as well as indicates a price difference incentive when the PSPgo does launch.
